Coffee with the Universe: Creating a Sacred Daily Practice

There’s something magical about starting your day with a ritual that’s just for you—a moment where you get to tune out the noise of the world and tune into yourself. For me, that ritual is Coffee with the Universe. It’s my sacred practice, my daily check-in, my way of starting the day feeling connected, grounded, and clear.

But here’s the thing: you shouldn’t create a daily practice just because someone told you to.

Your Sacred Practice Should Be Yours

I didn’t start Coffee with the Universe because I read it in a book or saw someone else doing it. I started because I felt called to. That’s the key. Your daily practice should come from a pull inside of you, not a sense of obligation.

This isn’t about what’s trendy or what someone on social media swears by. It’s about creating a space where you can connect with yourself, your intuition, and whatever higher power or energy you believe in—whether that’s the Universe, Source, your higher self, or something else.

It’s also important to remember that having this connection isn’t a privilege—it’s your birthright.

There’s No Wrong Way to Do It

One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to create a sacred daily practice is thinking they have to do it a certain way. They copy someone else’s ritual step by step, only to find that it doesn’t feel right for them. The truth is, there’s no wrong way to do this.

Your practice can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. Some days, I just sit with my coffee and set an intention for the day. Other days, I journal, pull a tarot card, or light a candle. The key is consistency—but not in a way that feels rigid or forced.

Keep one part of your practice nonnegotiable, whether it’s a specific journal, a daily card pull, or five minutes of quiet reflection. But allow the other elements to shift and change depending on what feels good.

Some ways to mix it up:

• Change your location—sit outside, at your desk, or in a cozy nook.

• Pull an oracle or tarot card for guidance.

• Burn incense or light a candle to set the mood.

• Listen to music, mantras, or nature sounds.

• Treat your journal like a vision board—add sketches, doodles, or colors.

The Power of Journaling (Even One Sentence at a Time)

I always encourage people to document their practice in some way, even if it’s just writing one sentence a day. You might not think much of it in the moment, but when you look back, you’ll start to see patterns.

Journaling gives your future self clues. You’ll notice what works for you, what doesn’t, and what insights you’ve received over time. Even on days when nothing profound happens, you’ll be glad you kept track.

Why This Practice is Worth It

When you stick with a sacred daily practice, the benefits start to add up. Some days, you’ll walk away with a new idea or the clarity to make an important decision. Other days, you’ll simply feel calmer, more confident, and ready to take on the day.

Over time, this practice helps you build trust in yourself. It strengthens your intuition. It reminds you that you’re not just reacting to life—you’re co-creating with the Universe.

And who knows? If you stay with it long enough, you might even uncover a deeper calling that’s been waiting for you all along.

So, if you’ve ever felt drawn to create a practice like this, trust that feeling. There’s a reason. Your conversation with the Universe is waiting.

Thank you Amber for the reminder! I really need to stay off my phone and not check emails and messages UNTIL I have my coffee with intention. …. Off to buy a new journal book. I believe a fresh, clean, crisp new book is my way to honor the inspiration.

This article truly resonates with me on a deep level. Up until about two years ago, I didn’t have a structured morning ritual. My mornings were often filled with endless scrolling on social media, consuming content that was overwhelmingly negative. This habit set a negative tone for my entire day. However, things changed for the better when I decided to establish a morning ritual of meditation, reading scripture, and journaling.

Despite the chaos in my life and the demands of my job, where so many people rely on me, taking this time in the morning has been transformative. It allows me to balance my energy and focus on my intentions for the day. I’ve noticed a significant positive change in my life with just this small adjustment to my routine.

The article articulates these benefits beautifully and is incredibly well-written. It serves as a reminder of how important these moments of personal reflection can be. I’m grateful I took that step two years ago to prioritize my well-being, and this piece is a wonderful validation of that choice.
