For My Granddad, My Role Model and Best Friend

Granddad, you were always my hero. From the time I was a little boy, I looked up to you in awe of everything you had accomplished in life. You were a man of few words, but when you spoke, I listened. There was wisdom in everything you said, and even now, I find myself trying to live by the lessons you taught me.

You were a pillar of strength in our family. I remember how you’d always have a quiet word of encouragement when things got tough. You were never the loudest in the room, but your presence was always felt. I miss our long walks, the ones where we didn’t even have to talk much. Just being with you was enough.

When you passed, it felt like I’d lost not just a granddad, but a mentor, a friend. You’d always been there, this constant figure in my life, and suddenly you weren’t. It’s strange how the world keeps going, even when your whole world has changed. I keep expecting to see you in your chair by the fire, reading your paper, just as you always did.

I try to live in a way that would make you proud, Granddad. I try to carry on the values you instilled in me—hard work, honesty, and treating people with kindness. Those are the things you lived by, and they’ve stayed with me long after you’ve gone. I only wish I had more time to tell you how much you meant to me.

Every time I face a difficult decision, I think about what you would have done. In many ways, you’re still guiding me, still offering that quiet wisdom that I relied on so much. I miss your steady hand on my shoulder, but I carry your strength with me, always.

I care that you were here, Granddad. More than I can say. And I will never forget the impact you made on my life.
